Juneteenth Celebration Bellingham

This was the inaugural event of the Bellingham Unity Committee which invited the community to celebrate National Freedom Day: Juneteenth, Bellingham’s newest tradition! Juneteenth is an American national holiday that pays tribute to 153 years of independence for all people. For this event, we organized a Saturday Block-Party at Maritime Heritage Park on June 16th to commemorate the astounding accomplishments of African-Americans, and their accomplices, that etched true civil liberty into our history. We gathered to ceremonialize the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865, announced in the harbor of Galveston, Texas!

For this event, folks gathered in a community picnic to hear and watch live music, speakers, step dance, a food vendor, and members of Black Lives Matter Bellingham to patriotically celebrate our intertwined liberation.

Teejay Morris and Jazzmyn Hannah from Black Lives Matter Bellingham were the MC's for this event!
