2nd Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Ball
On January 18th, 2020, we invited the community to be a part the 2nd Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Ball held at Settlemyer Hall at Bellingham Technical College.
Taken from a message that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave at Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee on April 3, 1968, the inspiration for the ball comes from his final public appearance before his tragic assassination the next day when Dr. King encouraged folks to: Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself, 'Here is an opportunity to celebrate like never before my own power and my own ability to get myself to do whatever is necessary.’
For this event, we celebrated in honor of Rev. Dr. King and the organizations and individuals in the Bellingham community who keep his dream alive...the dream that this country can attain only by working together and acknowledging our shared history and the ideals of equity, freedom, and self-determination.
